Steven C. Lanza has been with Onebane Law Firm over three decades, concentrating on handling business, commercial and complex transactions, and litigation, as well as representing businesses, entrepreneurs, and medical practitioners.
Steve graduated summa cum laude from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1986, with a B.S. degree in Finance. He was selected as the Outstanding Graduate of the College of Business Administration and was awarded the Citicorp USA scholarship, the Lafayette Building Association scholarship, and the Bank of Lafayette scholarship. In 1989, Steve graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University. He graduated in the top three percent of his class and was elected Order of the Coif and inducted into the Louisiana State University Hall of Fame. Steve began his legal career at Onebane Law Firm in 1989.
In 1993, Steve was selected as the Outstanding Young Lawyer in the State of Louisiana by the Louisiana State Bar Association–Young Lawyers Section. He serves on the Louisiana Supreme Court’s Standing Committee to Evaluate Requests for Court Costs and Fees, where he has been a member since 2003. Steve was a member of the Board of Governors of the Louisiana State Bar Association from 1998 to 1999, a member of the Judicial Council of the Louisiana Supreme Court from 2001 to 2003, President of the American Inn of Court from 2005 to 2006, and Chair of the Louisiana State Bar Association – Young Lawyers Section from 1998 to 1999. He is a co-founder of the Lafayette Young Lawyers Association and served as the organization’s President from 1992 to 1993. Steve has been a member of the American Inn of Court of Acadiana since 1999.
Steve has received numerous awards over the years, including the Lafayette Bar Association’s Outstanding Volunteer Lawyer Award in 1992, as well as numerous program awards from the American Inn of Court of Acadiana, and the American Inn of Court Foundation between 2006 and 2013. Steve was recognized by Acadiana Profile magazine as a “Top Lawyer in Acadiana” for 2015 in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Commercial Transactions, and Mergers and Acquisitions. He was recognized again in 2016 in the areas of Commercial Litigation and Mergers and Acquisitions.
Steve is the co-founder of Catholic Radio for Acadiana (KLFT — 90.5 FM) and has served as its volunteer legal counsel since 2009. Steve also founded the Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School’s Legal Committee in 2006 and served as volunteer legal counsel for the Our Lady of Fatima Parents’ Club from 2006 to 2015. Steve enjoys playing guitar, hunting, and fishing.
